It looks like another Whimwood chardonnay is on the rise. The taste-off for top chardonnay was a two-horse race (between the 16 & 18 Whimwood Chardonnay), according to all three judges. The family resemblance is strong, with fig/white peach fruit supported by nutty/funky complexity. The palate is long, delivering texture, intensity and a good line of acidity ★★★★★

Plenty happening in this excellent chardonnay from this terrific new producer. Struck match and cashew with butterscotch overtones on the nose. The rich palate is a feature with its depth and length. Dry flinty finish completes an excellent wine.

2017 Whimwood Chardonnay

94 Points

Another cracking good chardonnay from this little producer which in a few years has created quite a reputation for the quality of its chardonnays. Ripe fig and butterscotch with minerally stone fruit and mealy grapefruit edges. A powerful linear palate that has tremendous promise. Like it.

GOLD MEDAL 95 Points

More weight and fruit intensity than the previous vintage.  The result is a better wine.  Has a sweet ripe fruit character with plush plummy flavours, spice and some nice vanillin oak.  Generous and medium-bodied with a pleasing finish.

2017 Whimwood Shiraz

A delightfully presented cool-climate shiraz. The spicy pepper characters emerge on the nose with a black cherry fruitiness. The palate is seamlessly structured with a savoury dried herbs thread supported by fine sinewy tannins. A lighter-bodied wine, but with good flavour intensity.
