Ray Jordan Wine Review 2025 - 91 points
From what was a pretty good year for whites, comes this excellent chardonnay. Lightly lifted notes of white peach and nectarine with a neat twist of lemon. The palate is lightly framed but has good intensity with notes of roasted almond, lemon rind and quince. It’s balanced and poised with a precise palate profile. Shorter term wine.
This wine is made from 100% estate grown fruit. The grapes were handpicked in early February then gently pressed with the juice pumped straight to barrel for fermentation. The barrels were 100% French with about 1/3 of them being new. Following fermentation a couple of barrels will be allowed to go through some malolactic fermentation which adds a creamy texture to the wine. The wine is then matured for 10 months then prepared for bottling. In early January, the wine is racked to tank where it is carefully fined and filtered, and then bottled.
The colour is a bright straw with a green tinge. Spicy, creamy aromas of baked custard citrus and stone fruit invade the nostrils then lead to a palate bouncing with more cream, custard and stone fruit with a quenching citrus tang to finish. A lovely balanced Chardonnay with crisp acidity and a delicate textural finish. Will age comfortably for 8 - 10 years if you can wait that long.
